Story from Frank Weisenberger, CCNet Coach in Australia
In northwestern Australia, Nyikina Mangala Traditional Owners are partnering with The Nature Conservancy on conservation projects that fulfill their cultural obligation to look after country. At a recent workshop, the Nyikina Mangala community and other Traditional Owner groups learned how to apply the Open Standards to their Healthy Country Planning project.
The Nature Conservancy is also working with Walalakoo Aboriginal Corporation on a “Development by Design” project to help the community analyse the implications of development projects. At the end of the collaboration, Nyikina Mangala people will have tools to make land management decisions that balance social, cultural, and economic benefits.
